Much ado is being made over a scathing resignation letter submitted by over 20 DOGE staffers, as the media claims this represents a “setback” for Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency.”

From the Associated Press: More than 20 civil service employees resigned Tuesday from billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, saying they were refusing to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the 21 staffers wrote in a joint resignation letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”

The employees also warned that many of those enlisted by Musk to help him slash the size of the federal government under President Donald Trump’s administration were political ideologues who did not have the necessary skills or experience for the task ahead of them.

The mass resignation of engineers, data scientists and product managers is a temporary setback for Musk and the Republican president’s tech-driven purge of the federal workforce. It comes amid a flurry of court challenges that have sought to stall, stop or unwind their efforts to fire or coerce thousands of government workers out of jobs.

In a separate report, the Daily Mail blasted out the headline, “Musk stunned as dozens of DOGE staff suddenly QUIT with scathing letter….”

However, Musk doesn’t appear to be “stunned” at all. Responding to the AP report, he wrote, “More fake news from Associated Propaganda. These were Dem political holdovers who refused to return to the office. They would have been fired had they not resigned.”

DOGE spokeswoman Katie Miller, who is the wife of Trump advisor Stephen Miller, also responded to the AP report.

“These were full remote workers who hung Trans flags from their workplaces,” she wrote.

Citizen journalist Julia pushed back against the AP report, and provided additional clarification:

This is misleading. The 20 staffers were already working for Digital Service—which became DOGE—and didn’t want to work for DOGE, so they resigned. They were not originally hired to work for DOGE.

“The staffers who resigned worked for what was once known as the United States Digital Service, an office established during President Barack Obama’s administration after the botched rollout of Healthcare(dot)gov.”

One of the EOs Trump signed on his first day in office included “renaming the U.S. Digital Service as the U.S. DOGE Service. It further directed that DOGE be established within the Executive Office of the President.”

In another slam at the Associate Press, Musk gave them a new name: Associated Propaganda.

Meanwhile, a new poll shows overwhelming support for the DOGE cuts.
