From the Daily Caller: Federal judges posted a job application online Tuesday seeking someone to take Lindsey Halligan’s place as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Chief United States District Court Judge M. Hannah Lauck issued an order directing the court’s clerk to “publish a vacancy announcement on the Court’s website and in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Washington Post, The Virginian-Pilot and Virginia Lawyers Weekly.”
Halligan, whose appointment was found unlawful in November when a judge dismissed her cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, has continued to operate in the role.
Judge David Novak pressed her on this decision in a Jan. 6 order requesting “a pleading explaining the basis for Ms. Halligan’s identification of herself as the United States Attorney.”
Halligan has now left the position.
Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement Tuesday night, slamming the Democrat senators who used the “blue slip” process to prevent Halligan from being confirmed to the position.
“Her departure is a significant loss for the Department of Justice and the communities she served,” Bondi wrote. “While we will feel her absence keenly, we are confident that she will continue to serve her country in other ways.”
“The circumstances that led to this outcome are deeply misguided. We are living in a time when a democratically elected President’s ability to staff key law enforcement positions faces serious obstacles. The Department of Justice will continue to seek review of decisions like this that hinder our ability to keep the American people safe,” Bondi added.
