REPORT: Ex-Rep George Santos says goodbye on eve of his lengthy prison term

3

From Fox News: Former Rep. George Santos posted a theatrical farewell on social media Thursday night, just hours before he was to begin serving a federal prison sentence for fraud and identity theft.

The former New York congressman is expected to report to federal custody Friday to begin serving an 87-month sentence, just over seven years, after pleading guilty in 2024 to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Santos was assessed the maximum sentence in April by U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert. He was also ordered to pay nearly $374,000 in restitution and forfeit more than $205,000 in fraud proceeds.

In a post on X Thursday evening, Santos appeared to be trying to stay lighthearted, as he mockingly and dramatically wrote:

Well, darlings… The curtain falls, the spotlight dims, and the rhinestones are packed. From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it’s been! Was it messy? Always. Glamorous? Occasionally. Honest? I tried… most days.

To my supporters: You made this wild political cabaret worth it. To my critics: Thanks for the free press. I may be leaving the stage (for now), but trust me legends never truly exit. 💋🇺🇸✨

Forever fabulously yours,
George

He left the post pinned to the top of his X page.

Santos has been busy on social media, addressing a number of topics before he starts serving his prison sentence.

In one post, he commented on an announcement from the FBI in Houston, who wrote: “Jaysha Victorian, 23, of Houston has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for using her access as a bank contractor to load prepaid debit cards with some $8.6 million in stolen unemployment benefits during the pandemic. Recipients, including herself, withdrew/spent over $7.6 million of those funds.”

Sharing his disgust, Santos responded, “And I get 7 fucking years! Tell me this is not an upside down political justice system! I hope the prosecutors, FBI agents and the Judge in my case pay for this… their actions are a clear abuse of their power. Justice might be blind and slow but I believe everyone will get exposed eventually!”

“If President Trump and Congress don’t focus on fixing the justice system, when Democrats take control of government they will put everyone they oppose in prison,” he warned in another post.

In multiple recent posts, Santos has been calling for Barack Obama to be prosecuted.

On July 9, Santos announced:

I’m heading to prison, folks and I need you to hear this loud and clear:

I’m not suicidal. I’m not depressed. I have no intentions of harming myself, and I will not willingly engage in any sexual activity while I’m in there.

If anything comes out suggesting otherwise, consider it a lie…full stop.

The statistics around what happens to gay men in BOP custody are horrifying, and that’s exactly why I’m putting this out there now. So if something does happen, there’s no confusion.

I did NOT kill myself.
