From the New York Post: KHARKIV, Ukraine — Thirty-three civilians, including a 10-year-old and two teenagers, were wounded in strikes Thursday in Kharkiv, where Russian forces are testing out a new type of “glide bomb” on innocent people.

The Post was on scene as war crimes investigators, firefighters, humanitarian and emergency services arrived just minutes after the back-to-back strikes, which hit a residential apartment building and a textiles factory around 11:15 a.m. local time.

“I was just coming from my kitchen when I heard the bomb,” building resident Svetlana Shevcheko said. “I never thought about leaving Kharkiv before, but I am thinking now.”

The northeastern Ukrainian city is just 15 miles from the Russian border, so bombs and missiles can strike there before residents are alerted to the incoming air raid.

Ukrainian journalist ‘Kate from Kharkiv’ later reported on X, “Drone footage of the aftermath of Russian glide bomb attack on Kharkiv. The number of injured has risen to 41 including 6 children. Medical workers asked citizens to donate blood.”

The NY Post explains that a new type of “glide bomb” was used in the strike, which is equipped with “aerodynamic wings for more precision and range.”

The new bombs “have a range of somewhere between 90 and 100 km (around 60 miles) — an increase of about 10 to 20 km — allowing Russia to strike farther into the city.” the report states.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zlenskeyy announced:

In Kharkiv, assistance is currently being provided to the victims in the areas hit by Russian glide bombs. As of now, dozens of people have been reported injured, including children. Russia dropped two aerial bombs right on the city, on people. One hit near a residential building, the other struck a civilian enterprise. Emergency services are now working to extinguish the fire there.

These are utterly senseless strikes with no military purpose whatsoever. And we see that this is Russia’s only intention – to continue aggression and killings. That is precisely why we need support in defense – strong air defenses, expanded weapons production. All of this will help save lives. We count on cooperation with our partners and are grateful to everyone already willing to help.

All relevant services are deployed on the ground – doctors, rescue workers, police – doing their jobs, helping people. I thank each one of them. And I am deeply grateful to all around the world who support and help Ukraine.
