From Fox News: The Department of Veterans Affairs canceled an “unreasonably priced” $15.3 million contract in an effort to overhaul how the agency cares for its warfighters, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) said Monday.

“Great work by the @DeptVetAffairs cancelling an unreasonably priced multi-year $15.3M services contract for ‘salary survey data and analysis,” a DOGE post on X states.

The contract cost the agency $3.9 million annually. It was replaced by a “market price” of $5,000, DOGE said, saving $11.1 million over the life of the agreement.

At the Environmental Protection Agency, the contract which paid someone $85,000 to water plants has been cancelled, among other things. DOGE announced:

Contract update! Agencies terminated 180 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $3.3B and savings of $2.6B, including a $85.5K @EPA contract for “live plant maintenance services” (the internal EPA team will water them going forward) and a $265.5K @HHSGov contract for “social media monitoring subscription, training, and platform setup”.

And… at the State Department…. check out this list of now-cancelled wasteful spending:

@SecRubio continues to scrutinize @StateDept foreign assistance, today cancelling 139 wasteful grants worth $215M including:

– $5.2mm to “Media Diversity” for programs like “Get the Trolls Out!” – “an anti-disinformation program” in the United Kingdom
– $2.5mm for “advancing critical civic engagement” in Uzbekistan
– $2mm for “Expanded Newsroom Sustainability and Engagement” in Moldova
– $1mm for “channeling gig workers’ rights” in Brazil
– $2.4mm for “Responding to Disinformation Through Creative Content in Belarus”
– $1.7mm for “Independent Media for Peace and Democracy” in Europe
– $1.5mm for a “Women-led Gendered Approach to Justice and Accountability”
– $1.7mm for “BeMediaWise” in Bulgaria
– $900k for a “Place for Women to Join to Organize” in Mauritania
– $750k for “Building the Migrant Domestic Worker-Led Movement” in Lebanon
– $740k for a feminist “Free Expression Initiative”in Tunisia

They also cancelled these wasteful grants:
– $1.4mm for “Preventing Internet Fragmentation” in Brazil
– $750k for “Enabling Civil Society Resilience and Adaptation” in Kyrgyzstan
– $1mm for “Building Trust and Keeping Hope Alive” in Sri Lanka
– $2mm for “Advancing Democratic Culture” in Armenia

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also commented on the cancelled contracts.

“Under my direction, the @StateDept has canceled another 139 grants worth $214 million. The American taxpayers should not be funding misguided programs like “Building the Migrant Domestic Worker-Led Movement” in Lebanon or “Get the Trolls Out!” in the United Kingdom.

“We are cleaning up the mess the previous administration left and rebuilding an agency that’s focused on putting America First,” Rubio declared.
