From the Daily Mail: Kamala Harris lost big to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, but if the 2028 election were to be held today, a significant margin of Democrats would vote for her again.
The vice president remains at the top of a list of Democratic potential candidates for 2028, according to a new poll, suggesting she still retains high name recognition and goodwill from the party.
Harris leads the potential field with 41 percent of the vote, according to a Puck News/Echelon Insights survey.
Thirteen other potential Democrat candidates in the poll received a combined 43 percent approval, each in the single digits. A total of 16 percent said they were ‘unsure’ who they would vote for in a potential 2028 Democrat primary.
Below are the results:
- 41% – Kamala Harris
- 8% – CA Gov. Gavin Newsom
- 7% – PA Gov. Josh Shapiro
- 6% – MN Gov. Tim Walz
- 6% – Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg
- 4% – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
- 3% – MI Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
Other Democrats on the bottom of the poll included:
- IL Gov. JB Pritzker
- KY Gov. Andy Beshear
- CO Gov. Jared Polis
- MD Gov. Wes Moore
- Sen. John Fetterman (PA)
- Sen. Cory Booker (NJ)
- Sen. Raphael Warnock (GA)
The same poll revealed some positive signs for President-elect Donald Trump:
Voters approve of the way Trump has handled his transition so far by a 13-point margin. Independents approve by a 20-point margin.
When comparing what voters expect his second term to be like relative to his first, voters overall, by a 9-point margin, believe it will be better.
Independents believe his second term will be better than his first by a 12-point margin.
