Here’s another one of those “we just can’t make this stuff up” reports.
From Fox News: The Democrat-controlled city council of New York City is suing Mayor Eric Adams for cooperating with the Trump administration by allowing ICE to conduct immigration investigations at Rikers Island Prison.
The city council is asking the court to declare an executive order by the mayor’s office allowing ICE into Rikers Island “illegal, null, and void.”
The lawsuit was filed in the Supreme Court of New York on Tuesday. In the suit, the city council accuses Adams of engaging in an illegal “quid pro quo” with the Trump administration by allowing ICE into the city prison in exchange for having the federal corruption charges against him dropped.
The suit claims that Adams, who is running for re-election as an independent, prioritized his own political goals over the city’s “prized sanctuary laws,” calling the executive order “the poisoned fruit of Mayor Adams’s deal with the Trump Administration.”
“Today, in New York City, a corrupt bargain is taking place in plain view: New York City Mayor Eric Adams … is using his official powers to pay off the Trump Administration for dropping criminal charges against him,” the suit claims. “The ‘purchase price’- which was agreed to in advance and is now being proffered – is the safety and wellbeing of immigrant communities and all New Yorkers whose rights are protected by our City’s prized sanctuary laws.”

WHAT PROMPTED THE LAWSUIT: Last week, NYC First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro signed an executive order allowing federal immigration authorities to operate an office on Rikers Island as part of their investigations into drug trafficking, organized violence and migrant gang activity.
The order allows the corrections department, NYPD and federal law enforcement agencies to share information about criminal gang activity which occurs among those both inside and outside of custody. However, the order is focused on criminal gang activity and does NOT give permission for ICE to arrest anyone simply for being in the country illegally.
New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, a Democrat who is running to take Adams’ seat as Mayor, wildly declared the lawsuit is an effort to “protect the rights and safety of all New Yorkers against attacks by the Trump administration—because the city’s mayor won’t stop placing his own personal interests ahead of the people of our city.”
She claims that Mayor Adams attempts to end criminal gang activity is “making New Yorkers afraid.”
Announcing the lawsuit, the NY City Council wrote, “Today, the Council filed a lawsuit to stop the mayor’s executive order allowing the Trump administration’s ICE to operate an office in Rikers. This executive order is tainted by the mayor’s conflict of interest and would erode trust between local government, law enforcement, and New Yorkers.”
Adrienne Adams personally added, “When New Yorkers are afraid of cooperating with our city’s own police and discouraged from seeking help, it makes everyone less safe. New York cannot afford its mayor colluding with the Trump administration to violate the law, which is why we are filing a lawsuit to halt this illegal order and uphold the basic standard of democracy—even if our mayor won’t.”

In a social media post on Wednesday, Adrienne Adams fumed over the news that a 19-year-old illegal alien has been deported to El Salvador.
“Trump’s ICE has disappeared a NYC teenager to El Salvador without due process or legal justification. The idea that our mayor both won’t say anything and wants us to trust ICE to follow the law with an office on Rikers is ridiculous. That’s why @NYCCouncil is suing to stop the illegal executive order to invite ICE into Rikers—it will undermine public safety,” she bizarrely claimed.
