From Breitbart: Politicians across the political spectrum in Colombia panned far-left President Gustavo Petro’s short-lived “trade war” with President Donald Trump and are calling for his impeachment and urging Congress to investigate his actions.

Petro prompted a brief diplomatic crisis on Sunday following his abrupt refusal to accept a U.S. deportation flight of Colombian migrants under grounds that the United States treats “Colombian migrants as criminals.”

President Trump responded to Petro’s actions by announcing he would impose a series of sanctions and tariffs on Colombia. Petro responded to Trump by delivering one of his characteristically long, incoherent Twitter rants, which have become a common occurrence under his administration.

Hours later, the Colombian government announced that it had “agreed to all” of President Trump’s terms and that the impasse with the United States had been “overcome.”

Now, it appears local politicians in Colombia are so disgusted they want Petro OUT.

Breitbart explained: Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, alongside other members of the conservative Democratic Center party, issued a joint statement condemning Petro for maintaining an “alliance” with Venezuela’s socialist Maduro regime while seeking to break with the United States.

Blasting Petro’s government for destroying their country, the group wrote, “We cannot forget that in the last 30 months, more than 2 million Colombians have left the country with no intention of returning. The major cause has been the destruction of our economy and the weakening of security, due to the decisions of the National Government.”

Federico Gutiérrez, the Mayor of Medellín and the presidential candidate  who lost the 2022 election to Petro posted the following statement:

I propose a delegation of Mayors of Colombia 🇨🇴 to travel to Washington and ensure that the United States government 🇺🇸 headed by @realDonaldTrump understands that Petro does not represent us.

The United States has been a strategic ally of our country for over a hundred years. During different administrations, it has contributed to our national security, economic growth, and the expansion of international tourism. With a lot of effort and trust building, Colombia became one of the great commercial allies of the United States and one of the main ones in South America. Petro has put all this in danger.

From Medellin, and surely from other cities as well, we are completely willing to welcome deported Colombian migrants so they can return home and have opportunities here.

The United States is already categorically punishing Petro, his government, his party and the allies who are leading us towards a leap into the void without a parachute. And the arrogance of @petrogustavo is causing an entire country to be punished today with the tariff measures that have just been taken and with the closure of visa processes.

Mayors, Governors and citizens opposed to the government: we cannot allow Petro to lead us to a state of isolation like the one achieved by his friends and accomplices in Cuba and Venezuela.

Conservative Senator María Fernanda Cabal said it’s time to demand Petro’s impeachment. She wrote:

The Petro government is not looking for solutions, but rather to consolidate its ideological narrative. Having the United States as an enemy is not a mistake, it is part of the manual of 21st century socialism that Petro follows to the letter.

With this enemy created by Petro, attention is distracted from the seriousness of Catatumbo and the territorial control strategy of the ELN, Cartel de los Soles and Pacto de la Picota.

Its strategy is clear: blame an external enemy to justify its internal failures, use isolation as a tool of control and advance its anti-imperialist agenda. This government does not see the crisis as a problem, but as an opportunity to centralize power and subject the country to a model of state dependency.

The real solution will not come from this government, but from Congress and from those of us who defend freedom, trade and progress. It is time to demand Petro’s departure through impeachment.

In another post, Cabal wrote:

Gentlemen @infopresidencia, please respond to this petition that I am making in the general interest. Where was Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, in the early hours of Sunday, January 26, 2025?

What were the reasons that prevented you from being in Bogotá on January 26, 2025 to address the crisis with the United States? Is there any medical situation that would prevent Petro from exercising his functions from the Casa de Nariño?

Still ripping into Petro, Cabal added: The constitutional order requires the Congress of the Republic to process the trial for unworthiness against Petro. This is where we need to move forward. The country cannot continue to be subjected to the irresponsibility of a man with a diminished capacity for reasoning.

Cabal shared the statement from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, which revealed that Petro had backed down and agreed to Trump’s demands.

“Blessed be God. This time Colombia was saved. We are aware of the kind of unworthy person who occupies the Presidency of a country that deserves a better future,” Cabal wrote.

“Petro has no knowledge or the ability to understand his own decisions. His irresponsible management of the Colombian State through tweets shows that he is a danger to the 52 million citizens. Bankrupting the country on a whim is only in the mind of a sick person,” she added in another post.
