From Breitbart: The California Supreme Court, dominated six-to-one by Democratic appointees, rejected a Republican challenge to the legality of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) attempt to redraw the state’s congressional districts Wednesday.
The court said that it was all right for Democrats in the state legislature to evade a 30-day minimum for new legislative proposals by replacing the text of existing bills with the gerrymandering language.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported:
The state Supreme Court opened the door Wednesday to plans by Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democrats to redraw California’s congressional districts in a gerrymander designed to pick up five seats, rejecting a Republican legal challenge.
A lawsuit Monday by legislative Republicans contended the hastily drafted ballot measure, scheduled for votes in both houses on Thursday, has not been published long enough to meet the public-notice requirements in the state Constitution. But the court dismissed the suit Wednesday in a brief order with little explanation.
The report explains that Democrats got around the 30-day requirement in California law by taking another piece of legislation that was already pending, erasing it and replacing all the language with their redistricting bill.
Now Newsom and the state Democrats will pass the new partisan congressional map and push it out to voters for approval in a special election in November that is expected to cost California taxpayers about $200 million.

Former president Barack Obama is cheering Newsom on. He declared in a statement post on X Wednesday:
“Over the long term, we shouldn’t have political gerrymandering in America, just a fair fight between Republicans and Democrats based on who’s got better ideas.
“But since Texas is taking direction from a partisan White House and gerrymandering in the middle of a decade to try and maintain the House despite their unpopular policies, I have tremendous respect for how Governor Newsom has approached this. He’s put forward a smart, measured approach in California, designed to address a very particular problem at a very particular moment in time.”
