From Fox News: Agents with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will no longer wear body cameras during field operations after a social media post publicized how to identify individual agents.

“All U.S. Border Patrol Agents will cease the use of body-worn cameras (BWC) in all operational environments,” CBP said in a statement to NewsNation, which originally reported the news.

The directive comes after a post on Reddit claimed that the mobile application BLE Radar, which uses Bluetooth to scan for low-energy devices such as phones, smartwatches and speakers, can also track CBP body cameras from a distance of 100 yards and can also trigger improvised explosive devices.

CBP officials quickly informed agents in a memo, “Pending completion of investigation and risk mitigation, all Agents will stand down the use of their BWCs [body worn cameras] until further notice. Additional guidance and information will be disseminated as it is received.”

Meanwhile, progressive Democrat Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY), a former illegal alien, wildly claimed, “Ending the use of ICE & CBP agents’ body cameras has a vile motivation: they don’t want the American public to witness the separation of families, kids in cages, or targeting of innocent individuals for deportation.

“This is maddening. I will re-introduce my body camera legislation this week to keep the cameras on while ICE and CBP conduct enforcement,” he fumed.

This comes just as the Border Patrol has warned agents in the Reio Grand Valley Sector of Texas last week in a memo about a potential shooting attack on federal agents from cartel on the Mexican side of the border.

The memo reads: “The Rio Grande Valley Sector Operations Center (RGV OPEN) received information indicating that an organized group operating out of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, is allegedly planning to use a subject who will remain in Mexico to shoot at a U.S. Government, Law enforcement, or Military official on the U.S. side of the border. Additional information suggests that the shooter will attempt to make it appear as though the Government of Mexico were involved.”
