From WUSA9.com: A Congressman has introduced a bill to rename Washington Dulles Airport in Northern Virginia after President Donald Trump, as the House GOP rounds out its first workweek with Trump as the 47th president.

Rep. Addison McDowell, a North Carolina Republican introduced, H.R. 691 on Thursday. The bill, “to designate Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia as ‘Donald J. Trump International Airport,'” was referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

A bill to rename Dulles after President Trump had been introduced in March 2024 by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.), but with a Democratic president and a Democrat-controlled senate, the bill faced an uncertain future and died in committee.

Now, with the Republicans gaining control of the White House and both chambers of Congress in January, a bill to rename Dulles Airport to Trump Airport has a much clearer path to becoming law.

“Democrats are all for changing genders—so why not change the name of an airport? President @realDonaldTrump won a historic victory, and honoring his legacy at Dulles is an easy decision,” Addison declared on Thursday.

Reps. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), Brandon Gill (R-TX), Riley Moore (R-WV), and Brian Jack (R-GA) are all co-sponsors of the bill.

Rep. Gill wrote, “I’m excited to cosponsor @RepMcDowell’s effort to rename Dulles International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport. President Trump is the greatest president of my lifetime, so it’s only fitting that we honor him and the incredible leadership he has brought and will continue to bring to save our great nation.”

Rep. Moore wrote, “Proud to be an original co-sponsor of @RepMcDowell’s bill to rename Dulles Airport to Donald J. Trump International! President Trump’s agenda to lift up the forgotten men and women of America reverberates so strongly with the people of my district and so many across the country. Let’s get it done!”

Rep. Reschenthaler said in a statement on X, “President Trump is the greatest president of my lifetime. Renaming @Dulles_Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport will cement his status in our nation’s capital as our fearless commander-in-chief, extraordinary leader, and relentless champion for the American people.”

Democrats are slamming the proposal.

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.), who represents the district that includes Dulles Airport, fumed, “.@HouseGOP⁩ is more busy with stunts like renaming airports and gulfs instead of tackling real issues like: lowering costs for families, improving schools, and fixing infrastructure. While they waste time, everyday Americans are left to pay the price.”

Former Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat who is now running for governor in Virginia, blasted the idea when it was first proposed in April of last year.  She wrote, “This idea is ridiculous, but sadly real. Congress must act on pressing issues like reauthorizing the FAA and passing the national security supplemental. Yet this is what a Member of House Republican leadership focuses on — renaming Virginia’s Dulles airport after Trump.”
