REPORT: Argentina’s president cracks down, bans gender transitions for minors

From the Associated Press: Argentina’s president has signed a decree banning gender-affirming care for people under age 18, a presidential spokesperson said Wednesday.

The announcement comes days after a massive mobilization of the LGBTQ+ collective in repudiation of President Javier Milei’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, during which he slammed “wokeism,” feminism and referred to homosexuals as “pedophiles.”

Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni in a statement to the press announced the repeal of a 2012 gender identity law provision allowing such practices with parental or guardian consent.

“Gender ideology taken to the extreme and applied to children by force or psychological coercion simply constitutes child abuse,” the government of the far-right president said in a subsequent statement. “Children do not have the cognitive maturity to make decisions about irreversible processes.”

A statement from President Milei on Thursday announced that he has “made the decision to prohibit treatments and surgeries for gender change in minors.”

“Children do not have the cognitive maturity necessary to make decisions about irreversible processes that in many cases involve the mutilation of healthy organs, and that are likely to cause infertility, cardiovascular problems, and catastrophic consequences on mental health,” Melie wrote.

“That is why pioneering countries of child gender change such as the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and, recently, the United States, are backing down, prohibiting minors from undergoing these processes,” the statement continues.

Argentinian President Javier Milei delivered a fiery speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, and lambasted the woke leaders who are pushing transgenderism on children.

“You are irreversibly damaging healthy children through hormonal treatments and mutilations. (…) And if so happens that the child’s family doesn’t agree, there will always be state agents willing to intercede in favor to what they call ‘the interest of the minor’. You mark my words, the scandalous experiments carried out today in the name of this criminal ideology will be condemned and compared to those that occurred during the darkest times in history,” he warned.
