From Fox News: Congressional allies of President Donald Trump have rallied around his and Elon Musk’s efforts to roll back the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Now, they’re urging the administration to set its sights on another core agency.
“I think the conversation about the Department of Education getting drastically cut is the right conversation,” Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., told Fox News Digital. “I trust the Tennessee General Assembly to craft curriculums for Tennessee students more than I do the California or the D.C. legislative bodies. And I think we all face that back home.”
Republican lawmakers who spoke with Fox News Digital this week named several federal offices that they wanted to see audited or scaled back by Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., rattled off a list of suggestions when speaking to Fox News Digital, “OSHA, EPA, Department of Education, ATF.”
Elon Musk announced Monday: “Reagan campaigned on ending the federal Dept of Education, which was created by Carter in 1979, but it was bigger when Reagan left office than when he started! Not this time. President @realDonaldTrump will succeed.”

The calls to shut down the Department of Education are growing.
“The Department of Education has existed since 1980. The results? Costs of education and salaries of career bureaucrats have gone through the roof, meanwhile test scores of students have plummeted. The solution? Abolish the Department of Education,” declared Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.).

“I agree with @RepThomasMassie that it is past time to abolish the Department of Education. I joined his bill, HR 899, to do just that,” announced Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wy.).

Rep. Burgess Owens (R-Utah) declared, “Every year Congress gives the Department of Education more money, and every year student outcomes decline. We are saying no more—it’s time for innovation in education to put parents and students back in the driver’s seat.”

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office earlier this week, President Trump was asked about Education Secretary nominee Linda McMahon.
“I told Linda, ‘Linda, I hope you do a great job & put yourself out of a job,” Trump replied.
Peter Doocy: “Why nominate Linda McMahon to be Education Secretary if you’re going to get rid of the education department?”

“I served as the 11th U.S. secretary of education. That’s how I know it’s beyond repair,” said former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who served during Trump’s first term in office.
