From Fox News: Democratic state lawmakers in control of the Virginia legislature are fast-tracking a proposed new congressional map that would give the competitive state up to four more left-leaning U.S. House districts in time for this year’s midterm elections.
The map, which Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger is expected to sign early next week, comes as Virginia voters are getting ready to vote this spring on a ballot measure which would give the legislature, rather than the current non-partisan commission, redistricting power through the 2030 election.
Republicans are calling the Democrats’ redistricting effort an “unconstitutional power grab.” Democrats are countering that it’s a necessary step to balance out partisan gerrymandering already implemented in other states by the GOP.
Virginia is the latest battleground, with Florida on deck, in the ongoing high-stakes battle between President Donald Trump and Republicans versus Democrats to alter congressional maps ahead of November’s elections.
The report notes that Democrats only need a net gain of three seats to win back control of the House.
A Democrat-leaning advocacy group, Virginians for Fair Elections is pushing for the new Dem-friendly map, and is spending seven figures to run an ad statewide promoting it with a twisted angle, in which they appear to condemn redistricting, but are then proposing that voters approve their ability to do the same thing.
Yesterday, new congressional district maps were released.
Today, we’re ready to level the playing field and vote YES on April 21st.

Meanwhile, the Republican-aligned group, Virginians for Fair Maps, is fighting back, and warned, “They call it fairness? In reality, it’s a farce. 66% of voters supported non-partisan redistricting. Now: one side is trying to rig the game by cutting backroom deals to promote their own. Even the Washington Post is against it – it’s that bad. Together, we can stop it.”

Former Virginia State Attorney General Jason Miyares, a Republican who was defeated by a Democrat in November, wrote last week, “If it wasn’t clear before, it is now. The Democrat’s only priority is drawing maps for their preferred politicians, not for the people of Virginia. We must put an end to their power grab and maintain our fair maps.”

The Virginia Republican Party warned:
THE MASK IS OFF. Democrats now openly admitting that they rigged our maps for certain lawmakers. They just admitted that this shameful gerrymandering crusade has nothing to do with “democracy” or “fairness.” The people drawing the maps specifically drew districts for THEMSELVES.
Open, naked corruption, and they don’t seem to see any problem with it. How is it “democracy” to anoint a nominee before the map is even public and ZERO elections have been held? Remember when Democrats used to say that voters should choose their politicians? Now they’re explicitly saying that the politicians are choosing their voters.
