From Fox News: A group of House Republicans is raising concerns about the potential effects of the U.S. importing Argentinian beef after President Donald Trump floated the idea earlier this week.
Rep. Julie Fedorchak, R-N.D., is leading seven other House GOP lawmakers in a letter to the president on Tuesday evening, warning the potential plan has rattled the multibillion-dollar American ranching industry.
“America’s cattle producers are among the most resilient and hardworking in the nation,” the Republicans wrote. “Collectively, the cattle industry supports thousands of jobs across our districts and contributes $112 billion to rural economies nationwide.”
“In recent days, we have heard strong concerns from producers regarding reports that the U.S. may import beef from Argentina.”
While speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Trump said Sunday, “We would buy some beef from Argentina. If we do that, that will bring our beef prices down.”
Investigative journalist Anna Matson said, “President Trump says we will buy Argentine beef because the country has no money. Who is going to tell him that we are about to hit 38 trillion in debt and family farms are going extinct…”

The suggestion to import beef from Argentina has prompted massive outrage from the agriculture industry.
Reacting to a video of Trump’s comments, Farm Action US said this proposal is a BETRAYAL of America’s ranchers.
“Washington bureaucrats are on the brink of delivering a crushing betrayal of our farmers—and the America First agenda. America’s soybean market just CRASHED after China stopped buying our soybeans. Now, our cattle ranchers are on the brink of the same fate,” the group warned.

Meriwether Farms, a farm-to-table cattle operation in Wyoming, posted the following open letter to President Trump:
Dear @POTUS Trump, We love you and support you— but your suggestion to buy beef from Argentina to stabilize beef prices would be an absolute betrayal to the American cattle rancher.
We understand there are larger economic and geopolitical dynamics at play, including countering CCP influence in countries in our hemisphere. But the practice of solving problems “over there” before solving problems here on our soil is what contributed to the downfall of our country: Americans always come last.
We understand beef prices are high, and we admire your concern for all Americans, but this is not the fault of the American producer. This is the fault of politicians who have allowed BRICS-aligned entities to dominate the meat industry, that participate in price fixing and who also continually lie to their consumers.
Washington for decades has facilitated the squeezing of our own ranchers while allowing these entities to flood the market with cheaper, lower-quality imports — and the American people don’t even know these products are foreign because they are allowed to be marked as “Product of the USA”.
On top of all this—there is only chaos coming from the Department of Agriculture. There is no true guidance, mixed messaging, and a copious amount of photo ops. There is no one to trust over there that truly understands the issues and isn’t bought out by or aligned with Big Industries.
The American cattle rancher is one of the last symbols of independence we have in the nation—but the continued manipulation and betrayal by the very people who claim to support them, needs to end immediately.
While only representing 1% of the population, the work is tireless, daily, in poor conditions, with low margins, without thanks— all in order to keep this country fed. We would be a failed nation if we continue to betray the very people who put food on the table for us.
There are so many voices on the outside that support you and want to see you succeed. Maybe it’s time to start listening to them. Your team knows how to get in touch with us.
Sincerely,
Meriwether Farms

“They drive DOWN what they pay ranchers while raising prices to Americans. They are why the US imports more and more beef every year while our American producers die off.\ They are the problem @realDonaldTrump @WhiteHouse @POTUS @VP @JDVance @SecRollins @USDA need to address.”

The Regenaissance also voiced their outrage, writing, “Our president, who claims to be American first, plans to import more beef to bring the prices down. We are already a net importer of beef, Brazil is taking over as the top beef producer in the world, and we are getting more from Argentina. Nothing about this is America first.”

AgroVita Farm Directory declared, “Tariffs to protect American workers… unless it’s ranchers. Trump wants to import Argentine beef to “lower prices”, throwing US cattle ranchers under the bus. American ranchers can’t compete with cheap imports. This isn’t ‘America First.’ This is Argentina first and Bull-Crap.”

Podcast host Tomi Lahren also voiced her fury over the suggestion, writing, “Why the actual FUCK would we buy Argentinian beef? Our AMERICAN ranchers are getting crushed already by cheap shit foreign beef imports. The meat packers are already under cutting our AMERICAN producers as it is. This is an OUTRAGE.”

In a second post, Lahren wrote, “The answer to lowering beef prices is not to flood the market with cheap shit from Argentina. Our American ranchers are already being severely undercut by the greedy meat packers who import cheap foreign beef. Also, because our lawmakers are impotent, they refuse to pass country of origin labeling so our American ranchers are unable to differentiate their superior product from these cheap foreign imports. This is a complete betrayal of the American cattlemen. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced, “The Trump Administration is focused on reinvigoraring the beef industry. After consecutive years of drought and increased input costs, the American cattle herd is experiencing record low supply, causing higher prices for consumers.
“Our ranchers, with grit in their bones and the open range in their hearts, tamed the wild frontier, stand today as a testament to the enduring spirit and strength that defines the best of what this nation has to offer.
“More to do to ensure massive wins for our ranchers and a secure future for our beef producers. Announcements coming.”

I’ve also been sounding the alarm on the bleak state of our ag economy and the negative impacts facing Nebraska’s ag industry—the economic driver of our state.
Bottom line: if the goal is addressing beef prices at the grocery store, this isn’t the way. Right now, government intervention in the beef market will hurt our cattle ranchers. The U.S. has safe, reliable beef, and it is the one bright spot in our struggling ag economy. Nebraska’s ranchers cannot afford to have the rug pulled out from under them when they’re just getting ahead or simply breaking even.
I strongly encourage the Trump administration to focus on trade deals that benefit our ag producers—not imports that will do more harm than good.
