FROM DAILY MAIL: The Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op facility in Middlefield, Ohio, is recalling more than two tons of its popular offerings, including its Pepper Jack and White Cheddar cheese, after the bacteria listeria was detected during testing.
The FDA warns consumption of food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In more serious cases, it can cause confusion, loss of balance and convulsions if it spreads to the nervous system.
The recall includes “100% Grass-fed Pepper Jack Cheese,” “Horseradish Flavored Cheese,” “Monterey Jack Cheese,” and “White Cheddar Cheese” all sold in 8oz packages or 5 to 40-pound rectangular loaves.
Thousands of pounds of cheese made in Ohio are being recalled, according to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). https://t.co/G8Bi41RKqC pic.twitter.com/62yd8j2CKj
