Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) challenged Fox News host Greg Gutfeld to a bench press contest Wednesday, with the loser agreeing to resign.
The challenge came after Gutfeld mocked Swalwell’s gym video, where the congressman criticized Republicans for starting the August recess early. Gutfeld joked about Swalwell’s strength, saying he belonged in the women’s locker room.
Swalwell claimed he “never heard” of Gutfeld before the host commented on his videos, but he pitched a challenge to him on X: “The deal: if tough guy benches more than me for 10 reps, I’ll leave Congress. If not, he leaves Fox News. I’ll give Greg 48 hrs to accept, then I’m calling him GUTLESSfeld.”
This isn’t the first time a lawmaker issued a fitness challenge. In March, Knox County Mayor and WWE legend Glen Jacobs proposed a wrestling match with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who claimed on a podcast that his masculinity intimidates Trump supporters. Gov. Ron DeSantis offered to host the bout in Florida, citing its strong wrestling fan base.
