DML News App and TeamDML.com founder Dennis Michael Lynch has responded after former President Donald Trump announced his choice of a running mate on Monday.
Trump, now the Republican presidential nominee, announced in a Truth Social post that he has chosen Sen. JD Vance of Ohio to be his running mate in his race for the White House.
In a Facebook post, DML released the following must-read statement:
VANCE.
I’ve spent the last 9 years telling people Trump is the kind of leader America needs, and I don’t think there’s any greater example than the warrior we saw on Saturday. My hope is I get to do such a thing for the next 4 years.
With this in mind, I never compromise who I am or what I believe to be true. My political opinions are not based on gut alone, but rather a mix of gut, facts, history, policy choices, and human behavior. They are also based on my faith as a Christian, and a proud conservative.
When I pick my candidates, I do so on a person’s principles, beliefs, and history. I don’t always get it right, but more than not I can predict it to the bullseye.
I knew Trump was the right guy in 2016 because he’s a fearless fighter. Having a fighter who could take on Hillary, her money machine, and the press was a perfect place for Trump. My fear at the time was his liberal leanings, but I knew his time in DC would force him to go full red. I was correct. Moreover, my greater concern was this: He often makes the wrong decision when aligning himself with someone less than admirable.
My fears became reality. Nearly every person he picked, aside from Dr Carson, turned out to be a person he’d later hate, fire, or question in terms of loyalty. Look at the short list knowing the entire list is super long: Pence, Bolton, Barr, Michael Cohen, Scaramucci, etc.
His pick in JD Vance is not the best choice, in my opinion. Not long ago, JD referred to Trump as “cultural heroin”, feared he was “America’s Hitler,”considered himself a “Never Trumper”. The left will play those sound bites for the next 4 months. Did anyone on Team Trump consider this? Independent voters may be concerned.
Further, he is married to a Hindu woman who spent her days in liberal universities and at a law firm in San Fran. She was a registered Democrat up until 2014. These facts don’t make JD or his wife bad people; I’m sure they are warm people who love America and we would be friends if he lived next door. But this is bigger than the couple next door.
Truth is the pick comes with risk. My point is we are not picking a couple to lead the Republican July 4 fundraiser, nor the National Prayer Breakfast readings, nor the homily at the Senate Christmas mass. We are talking about a guy, and a couple who stand inches away from the presidency. As we see with Biden’s health, and as we saw this Saturday in Pa., a VP is always closer to the Oval Office than we think.
I’ve been around too long to know the things I point out are not great if you’re a full-hearted conservative looking for a solid person who is 150% pro-God, pro-Constitution, pro-limited government, pro-secure border, and pro-life values.
Instead of picking someone 150% solid, like Ben Carson, we get a question mark. Per his first term, and considering the security failures from Saturday, we are entering the next chapter of wondering who is doing bad things behind Trump’s back. Someone who called Trump a possible Hitler, is he trustworthy? Time will tell.
I know JD fans will say he’s a great orator who regrets his former comments. But how many times have we heard that one before!
Anyone, with a smooth tongue, can sound great on Tv; is this the case with Vance? History tells us sound bites get us nowhere. Substance is everything, track records are important. Vance is a junior senator, with very little political experience.
In the end, it is what it is. It could be worse, he could have picked Haley or Rubio.
Vance is the choice, so be it. I’ll 150% support the ticket with one eye open. We should all pray for the best and hope the worst never plays out. I’ll hope I’m wrong about the choice, but as we learned with Obama “hope” is never a plan.
Is it a blown opportunity and the next chapter in the wrong family being in such close proximity to the next president? Sound off in the comments section.
