From Fox News: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday called for the elimination of the Electoral College during a fundraiser in California, a move some Democrats have advocated for in the past after election defeats.
Walz was in California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s private home in Sacramento when he remarked about the process by which U.S. presidents are elected.
“I think all of us know the Electoral College needs to go,” he said, according to a pool report at the event, Bloomberg reported. “We need a national popular vote, but that’s not the world we live in.”
In 2023, the Minnesota governor signed the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement in which each state would allocate all its electoral votes to whoever wins the popular vote for president, regardless of how individual states voted. The compact would take effect only if supporters secure pledges from states with at least 270 electoral votes.
A spokesperson for the Harris-Walz campaign tried to soften the blow and clean it up, saying in a statement, “Governor Walz believes that every vote matters in the Electoral College and he is honored to be traveling the country and battleground states working to earn support for the Harris-Walz ticket. He was commenting to a crowd of strong supporters about how the campaign is built to win 270 electoral votes. And, he was thanking them for their support that is helping fund those efforts.”
Fox News explained, “The Electoral College was created by the Founding Fathers in an effort to make sure large states didn’t dominate small ones in presidential elections or wield too much power. Abolishing the system would require a major constitutional change.”
DMLNewsApp founder Dennis Michael Lynch warned in his podcast Wednesday morning that if the Electoral College were eliminated, only a few of the most populated states would end up making all the decisions for the rest of the country, and over half the states would have no voice.
Gov. Walz’s call for eliminating the Electoral College is not an official campaign position, a Harris campaign official told CNN. https://t.co/Raj146YqFC

UPDATE: Thursday, Oct. 10. From Collin Rugg:
NEW: Governor Tim Walz says he thinks the Electoral College should be abolished but then says his position is that the Electoral College should *not* be abolished. This guy may be one of the worst VP picks of all time.
Strahan: You said you want to abolish the Electoral College.
Walz: It’s not the campaign’s position but every vote must be counted.Stahan: So that’s something that you and Harris disagree on?
Walz: I have spoken about it in the past she’s been very clear on this and the campaign and my position is the campaign’s position. The question comes after Walz said the Electoral College “needs to go” during a fundraising event.

That’s not the world we live in; Because without the electoral College, we would all be at the mercy of 5 states with the lowest kind of pond scum. The forefathers knew exactly what they were doing. I live in Florida, so I know something about pond scum.

1) Walz opposes many parts of the Constitution: the 1st Amendment, 2nd Amendment, Supreme Court, Electoral College.
2) He’s making excuses in advance & writing their campaign obituary.
3) He’s laying the groundwork to question and undermine Trump’s upcoming victory. https://t.co/ktoXIM8I5x

They’re trying to destroy free speech, the supreme court, all protections in the senate from tyranny, and now how we decided to elect our leaders from the jump.
Unelectable garbage people.

In the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump by 2.9 million more votes in the popular vote.
Of course, 4.0 million votes for Hillary Clinton came just from the two most politically corrupt cities in the country. Democrats EXCLUSIVELY controlled one since 1931. https://t.co/7xMf1aY53I pic.twitter.com/zPp1qKRKL2

🖐️🛑 There’s a GOOD reason for the electoral college.
The founders did not want four large states to be the sole deciders of who was governing our country.
