President Donald Trump has issued a proclamation Wednesday afternoon, in response to the horrific shooting at a Catholic church in Minneapolis during an all-school mass Wednesday morning.
Authorities have reported that two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed and another 17 people were injured, including 14 children.
The gunman was outside, and shot through the stained glass windows into the church during mass, before later killing himself in the parking lot.
The gunman has since been identified as a biological male who legally changed his name from Robert Westman to Robin Westman in 2019 when he was a minor.
In a proclamation posted on the White House website, President Trump ordered all flags on public buildings be flown at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, August 31, in honor of the victims.
The proclamation reads:
As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 27, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, August 31, 2025.
I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
