Phoenix shattered its previous high-temperature record on July 5, 2024, reaching a scorching 118°F and surpassing the 116°F record set in 1983.
This excessive heat wave is anticipated to persist through the weekend and into the following week. Simultaneously, severe thunderstorms with powerful winds and heavy rain swept through parts of New Mexico and Arizona, impacting locations such as Las Vegas, NM, and Nogales, AZ.
These storms also reached West Virginia, prompting warnings for Jackson, Kanawha, Mason, and Putnam counties.
