POLL: Would you vote for Thomas Massie if he were to run for president?

6

Thomas Massie, the libertarian-leaning Republican congressman from Kentucky’s 4th District, has emerged as a figure of intrigue in GOP circles, with growing speculation about a potential 2028 presidential run that could appeal to the party’s anti-establishment wing.

Endorsements from high-profile figures, such as Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, and enthusiastic online chatter from libertarians have fueled speculation about him challenging the Trump-dominated primary landscape.

Massie’s personal life has added to his narrative arc; after the tragic death of his wife Rhonda in June 2024, he remarried Carolyn Grace Moffa, a former Rand Paul staffer, in a low-key October ceremony followed by a Pennsylvania celebration attended by allies like Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Greene. This new chapter has coincided with what many observers dub a “glow up”—a sharper haircut, ditched glasses, a trimmed physique from a raw milk and red meat diet, and a more polished, presidential vibe that has gone viral on social media.

As a core Republican, Massie champions limited government, fiscal conservatism, Second Amendment rights, and pro-life policies, consistently voting to defund Planned Parenthood and slash federal spending while advocating for individual liberties rooted in the Constitution.

Yet he stands out as a perennial GOP outlier, often the lone Republican “no” vote on party-line measures, such as President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” the recent budget blueprint, and even Speaker Mike Johnson’s reelection, prioritizing deficit reduction over unified support. His antagonism with Trump has escalated dramatically, from Massie’s opposition to the Iran strikes and Epstein file secrecy to Trump’s fiery Truth Social rants labeling him an “embarrassment to Kentucky,” culminating in Trump personally endorsing Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein as a 2026 primary challenger to oust him.

Complicating his defense, the Integrity Political Action Committee (IPAC)—a super PAC backing Massie’s reelection—has forged coalitions with the Democratic Socialists of America to combat ICE enforcement and promote “Making America Healthy Again” initiatives that echo progressive critiques of industrial agriculture and immigration crackdowns. These stances, including alliances with Bernie Sanders donors and DSA activists on anti-deportation efforts, starkly contradict traditional Republican emphases on strict border security and free-market deregulation, drawing accusations of ideological drift even as Massie insists his votes remain steadfastly conservative.
