POLL: Would you support the deportation of Rep. Ilhan Omar?

18

The probability of U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar facing deportation has been speculated escalated higher than ever before.

Allegations of immigration fraud in Omar’s background stem from claims that she married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 to facilitate his entry into the United States.

President Trump has drawn concern to these claims, stating that Omar should be “thrown the hell out of our country” and linking her to broader criticisms of Somali refugees and their failure to assimilate. Trump has also vowed to cancel Temporary Protected Status for Somalis in Minnesota.

Omar over time has amped her hateful rhetoric toward the U.S., citing her past comments on foreign policy and domestic issues, though she defends them as advocacy for justice and reform. This renewed focus on Omar coincides with federal investigations uncovering widespread fraud in Minnesota’s social services, including Medicaid and autism care programs, involving many members of the Somali community. Prosecutors have charged dozens in schemes that defrauded millions from welfare and healthcare systems, with some funds linked to overseas groups like al-Shabaab.

Legal experts note that deporting a sitting congresswoman would require overwhelming evidence of fraud in her naturalization process.
