In recent days, Elon Musk has publicly expressed intense frustration with President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” a massive tax and spending package, labeling it a “disgusting abomination” and “utterly insane.”

He argues the bill, which could increase the U.S. deficit by $3.3 trillion over a decade, undermines his efforts to reduce government spending through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he briefly led. Musk has criticized the legislation for its “pork-filled” provisions, claiming it will burden Americans with “crushingly unsustainable debt” and harm future industries while favoring outdated ones. His opposition intensified after leaving his advisory role in the Trump administration, marking a significant rift with the president he once supported with over $250 million in campaign donations.

Musk has now vowed to form a new political movement, the “America Party,” if the bill passes, stating, “If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day.” He further declared it would serve as an alternative to the “Democrat-Republican uniparty” to give people a true voice.

Additionally, Musk has pledged to fund primary challengers against Republicans who support the bill, asserting, “Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.” His threats target lawmakers like those in the House Freedom Caucus, whom he accused of supporting a “DEBT SLAVERY bill.”

Musk’s outspoken criticism, amplified through his X platform, has emboldened some Republican deficit hawks, such as Senators Rand Paul and Mike Lee; however, others, like House Speaker Mike Johnson, have dismissed his concerns. Despite his waning influence in Washington, Musk’s wealth and social media reach could pose a substantial challenge to Republicans in the 2026 midterms if he follows through on his promises.
