Over the past few weeks, Tesla facilities across the U.S. have faced a wave of vandalism, arson, and protests, with incidents reported in states like Massachusetts, Colorado, and New York.
Charging stations have been set on fire, dealership windows smashed, and anti-Musk graffiti scrawled on walls, often tied to frustration over Elon Musk’s DOGE implementation. In response, President Donald Trump has publicly backed Musk, hosting a high-profile event at the White House earlier this week to promote Tesla vehicles and even announcing his intent to purchase one. Trump’s display, featuring models like the Cybertruck on the South Lawn, aimed to counter the backlash and boost Tesla’s image amid plummeting stock prices.
Some conservatives, like radio host Dan Bongino, Fox News host Sean Hannity, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, have purchased Teslas to show support for Musk, praising his business acumen and defiance of what they call “leftist attacks.” However, this trend has sparked confusion among others in conservative circles, where electric vehicles are often criticized as impractical and tied to progressive climate agendas. Many traditional conservatives remain skeptical of EVs, favoring gas-powered trucks and SUVs for their reliability and resonance. Online forums like X reveal the divide, with some users mocking the idea of “MAGA Teslas” while others defend Musk as a symbol of innovation.
We want to ask you, the reader: would you buy an electric vehicle? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on conservatives purchasing EVs to support Musk (and comment if you own an EV, and what you like/dislike about them).
