POLL: Will Rahm Emanuel be the next president?

8

It is rumored that former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel is seeking the presidency. But is he likely to win?

Peter Savodnik with The Freepress recently sat down with Emanuel, who worked with both former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton during their terms.

Here’s what Savodnik reported:

When I asked Emanuel about a recent report that he was running for president, he told me that nothing—or, as he liked to say, “nuh-thing”—was etched in stone.

“Before I make a decision, I want to know that I have an answer to what I think ails our country, ails our politics, and ails the party—and they may all be the same answer,” he said.

But over the course of our nearly two-hour lunch, Emanuel sounded increasingly as if he had already decided. “I know what I want to do,” he said. “We’ve got to get ready to fight for America—and that’s what I’m going to do.”

It seems clear that he’s interested, and even top Democrats are floating his name. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made the news this week when she said that she believes Emanuel will make a run for the Oval Office in 2028.
