Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Douglas, Arizona, today, her first U.S.-Mexico border trip since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee and her first since becoming Biden’s VP.

According to reports, she will call for stronger border security and emphasize that enforcing border rules is essential to American sovereignty while advocating for increased resources for Border Patrol agents.

Harris will focus on combating fentanyl trafficking in her remarks, labeling it a “top priority” of her administration. She plans to propose deploying fentanyl detection technology at key border entry points and will pressure China to clamp down on companies producing precursor chemicals used in fentanyl synthesis.

While emphasizing the importance of bolstering border security and addressing resource shortages, Harris will also advocate for an immigration system that is “safe, orderly, and humane,” according to campaign officials speaking anonymously regarding her prepared remarks.
