Former President Joe Biden’s use of an autopen to sign official documents, including last-minute pardons, has sparked nationwide controversy, raising questions about his mental acuity and who was actually authorizing key decisions during his presidency.

The autopen, a device that mechanically replicates a signature, was reportedly used for most of Biden’s executive orders and pardons, including those for his son Hunter Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of the Jan. 6 committee. This issue gained traction following the release of audio from Biden’s 2023 interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur, where he struggled with memory, slurred words, and failed to recall significant personal and political events. The Hur tapes, released over the weekend, intensified concerns about Biden’s cognitive capacity, with critics arguing he may not have been fit to authorize the use of the autopen.

On Tuesday, President Trump, speaking on Capitol Hill, escalated the controversy by claiming the autopen scandal revealed a “bigger issue,” questioning, “Who was really running the country?” and suggesting unelected aides may have controlled the device. Trump further stated that the pardons issued via autopen, particularly for the Jan. 6 committee, were potentially “void” due to Biden’s lack of direct involvement. These remarks followed Trump’s earlier sympathetic comments about Biden’s recent Stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis, which has spread to his bones.

The timing of the diagnosis, combined with the Hur audio revelations, has fueled speculation about whether Biden’s health issues were concealed, with Trump hinting at a cover-up without evidence. House Republicans, led by Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, are investigating the autopen’s use, arguing it undermines the legitimacy of Biden’s actions, especially pardons issued in his final days.

We want to ask you, the reader: should signed actions under Biden’s autopen be rescinded? Answer in our poll and comment below on its usage by Biden’s team.
