The raids, part of the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown, prompted widespread unrest, including rioters and protesters blocking vehicles, defacing federal buildings, and clashing with agents using tear gas and flash-bangs. President Trump responded by deploying 2,000 National Guard troops to quell what he called “violent mobs” attacking federal law enforcement, a move criticized by local leaders as inflammatory.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned the ICE raids, calling them “terror tactics” that sow fear in immigrant communities, and vowed to resist them, emphasizing the contributions of illegal aliens to the city. Her stance drew sharp criticism from Trump allies and LA citizens, who accused her of inciting violence and undermining federal law. Social media posts called for Bass’s arrest, alleging she encouraged resistance to ICE and failed to support law enforcement. Critics also pointed to her handling of prior crises, like the wildfires from earlier this year, to question her leadership and priorities.
