An Ohio woman, who has lived in her home for 45 years, urged local officials to address issues related to migrant activity driving her out. She spoke to the Springfield city commission last month, where an influx of 20,000 Haitian immigrants over the past few years has caused massive controversy.
The woman claimed she tried to assist the migrants to prevent them from “squatting” on her property but faced issues such as unsafe conditions, with non-English speakers in her yard causing disturbances. She expressed her vulnerability, noting her small size and inability to defend herself.
Due to these fears, her elderly husband decided it was time for them to leave their home of 45 years, saying, “Guess what? It’s time to pack up and move.”
Watch her testimony:
Springfield has had many problems related to the Haitian migration. Many of them cannot properly drive and have been getting into numerous accidents with other residents. Most of the migrants don’t have insurance or coverage, but the rates for legal Springfield residents continue to go up as a result.
Additionally, some Haitians have been hunting geese from the local parks for meals. In some cases, they’ve been targeting pets such as cats wandering about. One resident recently reported her friend’s cat being taken by a Haitian migrant, strung up in their backyard, and skinned for consumption.
This comes at a time when Haiti itself is in turmoil following an uprising that has plunged the country into warring factions, with some that engage in cannibalism. The Biden-Harris administration has chosen towns like Springfield to relocate some of the migrants without the approval of the mayors or town leadership; often, these migrants have no background checks for criminality or health issues.
We want to ask you, the reader: should Haitian migrants be allowed in the U.S.? Answer in our poll and comment your take on the situation.
