Numerous voices across the political spectrum and social media are calling for President Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his diplomatic achievements in 2025.
Supporters, including his son Eric Trump and MAGA influencers, have led a vocal campaign, with the Nobel Committee reportedly receiving thousands of letters urging the award for Trump. Many believe he deserves it, particularly for brokering a historic ceasefire and peace deal between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, announced just days before the prize decision, which includes hostage releases and Israeli troop withdrawals. This agreement, detailed in Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, has been hailed as a breakthrough after years of conflict.
Beyond Gaza, Trump has helped stifle flare-ups in other international conflicts, such as tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as border disputes between Thailand and Cambodia, contributing to his claim of ending eight wars since taking office. He also helped with the Armenia-Azerbaijan accord in August and the Congo-Rwanda peace deal in June. These efforts have drawn praise from global leaders who credit Trump’s direct involvement in de-escalating these crises.
Critics and fans alike argue that Trump merits the prize more than former President Barack Obama, whose 2009 win came just nine months into his term without any concrete recent achievements cited by the committee. Obama was awarded for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation,” but Trump has repeatedly dismissed it as undeserved, stating Obama received it “for doing absolutely nothing.”
The Norwegian Nobel Committee, however, opted to award the 2025 prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her work promoting democracy amid dictatorship. Earlier today, Committee chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes explained the snub by emphasizing that decisions are based solely on the “courage and integrity” exemplified by past laureates, noting that campaigns and media attention, including those for Trump, do not influence their deliberations.
