Vice President Kamala Harris is facing criticism after announcing that Hurricane Helene victims would receive $750 in federal aid to cover immediate food needs.
During her visit to Augusta, Georgia—one of the hardest-hit areas—Harris explained that the funds would be distributed through FEMA, and additional support would be available for long-term recovery and other losses. This announcement followed the Biden administration’s designation of Georgia as a disaster zone on October 1.
The $750 aid package announced by Vice President Kamala Harris has drawn widespread criticism, with many expressing frustration on social media. Critics argue the amount is insufficient, especially given the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Helene, which destroyed infrastructure and homes and left many without communication.
Additionally, some questioned the U.S. government’s decision to allocate billions of dollars to foreign aid for countries like Ukraine and Israel, while offering what they felt was a minimal amount to American hurricane victims.
Additionally, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters Wednesday that FEMA can meet immediate needs but lacks funding to make it through the hurricane season. He recently warned Americans during a televised interview of increasing extreme weather events.
We want to ask you, the reader: is the federal government doing enough to help Hurricane Helene victims? Answer in our poll below and comment your response on the efforts (or lack of efforts) made by the federal government to help the impacted Americans in those regions.
