President-elect Trump is contemplating replacing his current Defense Secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis due to concerns over Hegseth’s confirmation.
Reports indicate that some Senate Republicans are hesitant to support Hegseth following a recent sexual assault allegation against him. If four or more GOP senators oppose him, Hegseth’s nomination could fail, potentially leading to his withdrawal.
Trump and DeSantis have discussed this possibility directly, with DeSantis reportedly open to the role, according to The Bulwark. In addition to DeSantis, Trump is considering former Pentagon official Elbridge Colby and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) as alternative candidates, per the Wall Street Journal.
While some praise the idea of DeSantis filling the role, others believe he is better suited as Governor of Florida, considering his popularity in the state and his input in turning it deep red.
We want to ask you, the reader: do you support Trump replacing Hegseth with Gov. DeSantis as Sec. of Defense? Answer our poll below and comment on any suggestions for an alternative to DeSantis, whether DeSantis should take the nomination or whether Trump should keep Hegseth in the role.
