A House GOP meeting erupted with disagreement as members clashed over advancing Trump’s agenda, delaying Speaker Mike Johnson’s timeline to initiate the America First agenda.

Frustrations, simmering for weeks, came to a head in the closed-door session, which one Republican called “predictably emotional.” During a tense moment, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), a Trump ally, voiced frustration over the reconciliation process. Republicans aim to use budget reconciliation to bypass Senate Democrats, but their slim majority demands near-unanimous support—a challenge for the ideologically divided GOP.

“He expressed a personal frustration, which I agree with, of there is literally no time to waste,” said one lawmaker of Donalds’ remarks in a statement to The Hill. “I think Byron expressed the angst of a lot of folks.”

Johnson aimed to finalize a budget resolution at last week’s GOP retreat and then advance it through the Budget Committee, but disputes over spending cuts stalled progress. Leadership proposed a budget with a $500 billion tax cut floor, which hardliners rejected, seeking deeper cuts of $2 trillion to $5 trillion. As a result, the planned markup was postponed, with Majority Leader Steve Scalise confirming it won’t happen this week.

We want to ask you, the reader: do you support the GOP push for budget reconciliation? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on the stalling from resistant Republican lawmakers.
