Federal immigration authorities arrested Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian graduate student involved in pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University.

Khalil was taken into custody over the weekend from a university-owned residence near Columbia’s Manhattan campus by ICE agents. During the arrest, an ICE agent stated they were acting on State Department orders to revoke Khalil’s student visa. Khalil is a permanent resident with a green card, but ICE revoked his green card status as well.

Khalil’s arrest appears to be among the first under President Trump’s policy to deport international students involved in protests against the Gaza war and support for Hamas, a designated terrorist organization. Although Khalil graduated months ago, he remained in school-provided housing under a policy allowing students to stay on campus post-graduation. ICE agents also sought to arrest Khalil’s wife, an American citizen eight months pregnant.

We want to ask you, the reader: do you support the deportation of Pro-Palestinian activists? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on the deportation of green card students for spearheading Pro-Palestinian protests.
