President-elect Donald Trump surprised the defense world by nominating Fox News host Pete Hegseth as defense secretary, choosing a relatively unconventional figure for the role, according to the AP.
The decision bypassed several established national security experts, causing some concern in Washington. Hegseth, a co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend,” has an Army National Guard officer background. While some Republican lawmakers responded cautiously, others praised his combat experience and called him “tremendously capable.”
Hegseth’s nomination signals potential significant shifts for the military, as he, like Trump, opposes “woke” programs focused on equity and inclusion. He has also questioned women’s roles in combat and supported pardons for service members accused of war crimes. At a June rally, Trump endorsed Hegseth’s book, promising that if elected, he’d eliminate “woke” policies within 24 hours.
We want to ask you, the reader: do you support the choice of Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on the choice of Hegseth.
