Today we “spring forward,” advancing the clock one hour, as Daylight Savings Time begins. This allows an extra hour of sunlight in the evenings. Many people wish we could keep it this way year around.
On November 2, we will “fall back” an hour, returning to Standard Time, which results in the sun coming up earlier in the morning, but gives less daylight in the evening. Those who commute to work often complain that it’s already dark by the time they go home.
The debate is growing louder to eliminate one or the other, instead of changing the clocks every spring and fall. However, as President Trump said this past week, everyone is still divided over which way they’d rather turn the clock, while some want to leave it alone.
Those in favor of permanent Standard Time argue that it’s healthier to have light earlier in the morning, and the darkness in the evenings encourages us to just go to bed and get a good night’s sleep.
Those in favor of permanent Daylight Savings Time want more daylight in the evening for work or fun activities.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) recently introduced the “Sunshine Protection Act,” which would make Daylight Savings Time permanent.
In just a few weeks, Americans will lose an hour of sleep as we “spring forward” into Daylight Saving Time.
This should be the LAST time we have to change our clocks.

Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Ala.) is also calling for permanent Daylight Savings Time, and posted a list of reasons why she feels it would be better for health, the economy, and in the best interest of the country.
Don’t forget! This weekend we “spring forward” and change our clocks.
As a baseball mom, I enthusiastically support that extra hour of sunlight, and I know a lot of Floridians who agree.

A nonprofit group called “Save Standard Time” is arguing for just the opposite.
No. Permanent DST makes winter sunrise too late. People need morning daylight to wake up, feel alert, and drive safely. Restore permanent Standard Time instead—keep clocks neutral and healthy! https://t.co/mUcLatK9Fw pic.twitter.com/kf7IcJOkmj

POTUS on Daylight Savings: “It’s a 50/50 issue and if something is a 50/50 issue, it’s hard to get excited about it. I assume people would like to have more light later, but some people want to have more light earlier because they don’t want to take their kids to school in the… pic.twitter.com/ytn6C0AMRS
