A recent Rasmussen Reports poll, conducted from May 18-22, marks a historic shift, with 48% of likely U.S. voters believing the country is heading in the right direction, the first time a majority has held this view in nearly 30 years of polling, since 2006.

This milestone was highlighted by Rasmussen pollster Mark Mitchell, who noted that this is the first time in their polling history that “Right Direction” has exceeded “Wrong Track.” The survey, which included 1,810 likely voters, has a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points with a 95% confidence level. In the same poll, President Trump’s approval rating stands at 53%, with 46% disapproving, including 36% who strongly approve and 37% who strongly disapprove, resulting in a Presidential Approval Index rating of -1. This approval rating aligns with a separate Rasmussen poll from May 27, showing 50% of voters approving of Trump’s performance, with 45% believing the country is on the right track.

However, other recent polls present a mixed picture: an Emerson College poll from March 8-10, 2025, showed an even split, with 50% of respondents saying the country is on the right track and 50% saying it’s on the wrong track. A YouGov/Economist poll from March 9-11, 2025, reported only 36% of voters believing the country is heading in the right direction, down from 43% the previous week. Similarly, a Reuters/Ipsos poll from March 3-4, 2025, found just 34% of Americans optimistic about the country’s direction, with 49% feeling it’s on the wrong track.

We want to ask you, the reader: do you feel the country is heading in the right direction? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on what you feel the Trump administration and the Republican majority are doing correctly and incorrectly.
