President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that he has no desire to engage in war with Russia but emphasized the urgent need for an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
He warned that if a “deal” is not reached soon, he would impose high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on Russian goods sold to the U.S. and allied countries. Putin has acknowledged the economic strain of the Ukraine invasion and may be more open to considering his war objectives fulfilled.
As the conflict nears its fourth year, Kremlin insiders suggest Russian elites increasingly hope for a settlement. Additional tariffs from the U.S. could further pressure Russia’s economy, which has already weakened since the war began in February 2022. According to Reuters, despite Kremlin messaging downplaying Trump’s recent remarks, Putin is reportedly worried about potential U.S. measures.
However, others believe Putin will continue to pose resistance and keep the pressure applied to Ukraine. This is also considering that the election of Trump threatens massive funding for Ukraine.
We want to ask you, the reader: do you believe Trump can help end the war in Ukraine? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on how you believe the war can be ended.
