POLL: Do you believe the country needs more H1B visa workers?

6

In a recent Fox News interview with Laura Ingraham, President Donald Trump defended the H-1B visa program, arguing that it is crucial for attracting skilled foreign workers to the United States.

Trump emphasized that America lacks sufficient “talented people” to fill certain high-demand jobs, particularly in specialized fields. He reasoned that without importing this talent, the U.S. economy would suffer, as domestic workers do not possess the specific skills needed for these roles. Trump further explained that the program is necessary to maintain competitiveness, insisting, “You have to bring in talent.” He dismissed concerns about oversupply by highlighting that the visas target “certain talents” unavailable locally.

Ingraham pushed back strongly, contending that flooding the market with foreign workers undermines efforts to raise wages for American citizens. She argued that the U.S. already has “plenty of talented people” who could fill these positions if given the opportunity, and that H-1B visas risk displacing domestic employees.

Many in the MAGA base and among Republicans have expressed outrage over Trump’s stance, viewing it as a betrayal of “America First” principles.

Critics argue that H-1B workers are taking jobs from Americans, including entry-level positions that do not require elite skills, exacerbating unemployment, especially among young people aged 20-24. Other critics believe the tactic of importing more H1B visa workers is to help companies benefit from cheaper labor instead of paying real wages to Americans.
