FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino appeared on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, where they firmly stated that Jeffrey Epstein’s 2019 death was a suicide.
Patel, drawing on his experience as a public defender and prosecutor, asserted, “You know a suicide when you see one, and that’s what that was,” citing his familiarity with the prison system and the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Bongino reinforced this, saying, “I’ve seen the whole file. He killed himself,” emphasizing the lack of evidence for foul play.
When Bartiromo noted public skepticism, saying, “People don’t believe it,” Patel acknowledged differing opinions but stood by the suicide conclusion. The interview, billed as a long-awaited exclusive, also covered FBI transparency efforts and other investigations. Social media, particularly on X, erupted with negative reactions, with users expressing disbelief, accusing Patel and Bongino of contradicting their prior skepticism about Epstein’s death. Others questioned their reliance on a file they previously called corrupt. MAGA supporters also labeled the statements “disappointing,” with some mocking the claim’s credibility given their distrust in the FBI.
The backlash presents a rift between the officials and their base, fueled by years of conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death. Despite their insistence, the public outcry underscored persistent doubts about the official narrative.
