A measles outbreak in rural West Texas has claimed the life of a school-aged child, marking the first U.S. measles death in a decade.

The child was hospitalized in Lubbock, Texas, but officials declined to provide further details on age, health conditions, or schooling. City spokesperson Lauren Adams confirmed the death during a joint press conference with Covenant Health and Lubbock Public Health.

This is the first measles fatality in the U.S. since a 2015 case in Washington state. The outbreak has raised growing concerns about the spread of the highly contagious disease, though others believe it should not cause national panic.

We want to ask you, the reader: are you concerned about the measles outbreak? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on measles making a comeback.
