The Democratic powerbrokers packed into Chicago’s House of Hope church needed little encouragement to speculate about Newsom’s 2028 ambitions.
Failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris, meanwhile, was seated just a few rows to Obama’s right. She may also be considering another run in 2028, despite her abysmal showing in 2024.
Any Democratic hopeful will be vying for Obama’s endorsement, as his reluctance to back Harris at the beginning of the race is considered to have hurt her chances against Trump.
President Donald Trump, who once shared a close relationship with Jackson, was absent, his public schedule confirmed.
