From Fox Weather: Several train cars derailed as torrential rains led to swollen rivers that wiped out a bridge in northern Arkansas on Saturday morning.
Photos from Mammoth Spring State Park showed multiple train cars toppled and heavily damaged train tracks stretching across the Warm Fork Spring River.
A rain gauge at Mammoth Spring State Park reported more than 5 inches of rain so far over the past three days as a relentless and deadly stream of severe storms and stalled downpours have plagued the region.
Photos posted by Facebook user Donnell Russell Saturday morning show the derailed cargo train. The track across the river appears to have collapsed while the train was passing over it, and the train cars are left in a jumbled mess on either side of the river.
From the photos, it appears the train cars were all empty.
“Here are a few more of the Mammoth Spring State Park and the train that went into the water. There is just so much damage all around and even though we have seen it before, it is still just almost too hard to wrap your head around,” wrote Russell.
A video shared by Mammoth Spring resident Bryan Risner also shows the derailed train at the river crossing:
Another video shared by Mark at Spring River Flies and Guides shows massive damage at a dam, near a fish hatchery.
“To more inches of rain today… we’ve had catastrophic rain north of us… please stop raining,” he says.
