North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has taken a hands-on approach in the wake of severe flooding that has devastated large parts of the country. Kim was personally involved in the rescue operations, steering a boat through the floodwaters to reach and assist those stranded by the disaster.
The floods have wreaked havoc across North Korea, with reports indicating that over 5,000 homes have been destroyed or severely damaged. Public buildings, essential infrastructure such as roads and railways, and vast agricultural lands have also been significantly impacted. The scale of the destruction poses a severe challenge to the already strained resources of the country.
Amid the disaster, Kim Jong-un has publicly accused South Korean media outlets of spreading false information about the extent of the flood damage and the number of casualties. He condemned what he described as malicious rumors intended to undermine the stability and morale of the North Korean people during a time of crisis.
In a gesture of international solidarity, Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his condolences to North Korea over the devastating floods. Putin expressed sympathy for the victims and offered support to aid in the recovery efforts.
