From the New York Post: An upstate New York mom couldn’t believe her eyes when she gave birth to a record-breaking baby boy last month – a supersized bundle of joy nearly twice the size of an average newborn.

Stunned parents Terrica and Shawn anticipated they would have a hefty newborn but were left in disbelief when their son Shawn Jr. arrived on Jan. 31 at Cayuga Medical Center, weighing a whopping 13 pounds, the largest tot ever born at the Ithaca hospital, the facility announced.

“We knew he’d be bigger, but we didn’t expect this,” the mom of four said in a statement.

“He’s already wearing 3 to 6 month diapers and clothes. It feels like I skipped straight to having a three-month-old.”

On February 13, the hospital shared a photo on Facebook of the giant baby lying near another baby, 4-pound Margot, born the same day to parents Chloe and Victor.  The hospital announced:

“Two unforgettable arrivals made January 30 a standout day in the Cayuga Medical Center Birthplace! One family welcomed Shawn Jr., a record‑setting 13‑pound newborn, the largest baby ever born at the hospital, while another celebrated the arrival of tiny Margot, weighing just 4 pounds.

“Their shared birthday was a sweet reminder that babies truly come in all shapes and sizes, and Cayuga Medical Center’s team is prepared to care for every unique birth story with skill and compassion.”
