First Lady Melania Trump hosted a White House ceremony unveiling a new U.S. Postal Service stamp honoring former First Lady Barbara Bush.

The event in the East Room featured a portrait of Bush by artist Charles Fagan and included remarks from Melania Trump and Barbara’s daughter, Dorothy “Doro” Bush Koch. The ceremony celebrated Bush’s legacy in literacy, women’s empowerment, and public service.

Melania Trump praised Barbara Bush’s contributions, acknowledging her advocacy for literacy and support for women’s leadership. She noted Bush’s compassion and strength, stating, “her legacy lives on.” Doro Bush Koch reflected on her mother’s dedication to family and nation, describing her as “the Enforcer” and emphasizing her commitment to truth and action.

The stamp, featuring Bush’s official White House portrait, will be released on June 10, coinciding with what would have been her 100th birthday. The design showcases her in a black suit with a pearl necklace, symbolizing her elegance and resilience.

Former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush were absent from the event. Their absence indicates ongoing tensions between the Bush and Trump families, stemming from past political disagreements. Despite this, the ceremony focused on honoring Barbara Bush’s enduring impact on American society.

Barbara Bush, who passed away in 2018, was remembered for her unwavering dedication to public service and family. The commemorative stamp is a tribute to her lasting influence and the values she championed throughout her life.
