Last week, The Washington Post featured an opinion column by Catherine Rampell praising Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff as a “modern-day sex symbol.”
Rampell highlighted Emhoff’s appeal as a refreshing, modern man who contrasts with traditional high-testosterone masculinity. She argues that Emhoff stands out, even more so than actor Ryan Gosling, due to his confidence in prioritizing his wife’s ambitions over his own.
The piece reads as follows:
“Move over, Ryan Gosling. The modern female fantasy is embodied by the man who might soon become our first First Gentleman. Emhoff appears to be a genuine mensch with an impressive career. He’s smitten with his wife and supports her ambitions, as is obvious from his convention speech and their sweet interactions on the campaign trail. But most important for this sexy sobriquet: Emhoff is secure enough with his own masculinity to sometimes prioritize his wife’s ambitions over his own.”
The columnist brushes off Doug Emhoff’s past romantic scandals with a dismissive remark, calling him the “working woman’s ideal partner” and a “hunk.” Emhoff has acknowledged having an affair during his first marriage, which involved a teacher from his children’s school who became pregnant. It is unclear whether the pregnancy ended in miscarriage or abortion, though two sources told CBS News it was a miscarriage.

What a demented, mentally-ill cult these people are.
Does it sound misguided, and yet so familiar? It should… pic.twitter.com/AOVwJSKSPD
