Incensed Democrats are reacting to the bombing of Iran by the U.S. military, with one prominent liberal calling for his impeachment.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., blasted Trump, saying “the risk of war has now dramatically increased.”
“President Trump misled the country about his intentions, failed to seek congressional authorization for the use of military force and risks American entanglement in a potentially disastrous war in the Middle East,” Jeffries said in a statement. “Donald Trump shoulders complete and total responsibility for any adverse consequences that flow from his unilateral military action.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., called the U.S. air strike an act of war and outside of Trump’s powers.
Speaking at a political rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as part of his Fighting Oligarchy Tour, he read some of Trump’s Truth Social post about the bombing.
“I want to tell you something,” Sanders said after reading the information to the crowd. “Not only is this news that I just heard this second alarming, that all of you just heard, but it is so grossly unconstitutional. All of you know that the only entity that can take this country to war is the U.S. Congress.”
“The president does not have the right!” he angrily ranted.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., also took to X to comment on the announcement, calling Trump’s decision “impulsive” and saying he should be impeached.
“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” she claimed. “He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
Another X user responded, “Hey @grok, can you tell AOC how many times Obama and Biden exercised military action without prior congressional approval?”
Grok is the X platform’s AI assistant, developed by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI. It can provide real-time fact-checking and explanations.
“Presidents Obama and Biden have taken military actions without prior Congressional approval multiple times,” Grok responded. “Obama authorized interventions in Libya (2011) and against the Islamic State (2014), citing existing AUMFs or limited scope. Biden ordered airstrikes in Yemen (2024) and against Iran-backed groups, justifying them under Commander-in-Chief powers. Exact counts are debated due to varying definitions of ‘military action,’ but at least several instances occurred under each. The issue remains contentious, with legal scholars split on constitutional limits versus executive authority.”
