A federal magistrate judge in Washington, D.C. (who harshly prosecuted many January 6 cases) is slamming U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro for cracking down on crime in the nation’s capitol, and Pirro is firing back.

BACKGROUND: Judge Zia Mustafa Faruqui is the first-ever Muslim Magistrate Judge in the United States, and is a Pakistani-American. A bio posted on Facebook touts that he “has worked to promote diversity in the legal profession.” Faruqui was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge on September 14, 2020. He previously served for twelve years as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in St. Louis and Washington D.C., working on cases regarding national security and financial crime.

Since becoming a judge in 2020, Faruqui reportedly presided over hundreds of cases related to the January 6th Capitol Breach.

Now Faruqui is slamming Pirro for seeking to prosecute a man who threatened to kill President Donald Trump.

The defendant, Edward Alexander Dana, was arrested on August 17 after going berserk at a D.C. restaurant. According to a criminal affidavit, Dana was arrested after “damaging a light fixture by pulling it off the exterior wall of the restaurant.”

After his arrest, he raged to police, “I’m not going to tolerate fascism. You see, I was adopted [inaudible] to protect the Constitution by any means necessary. And that means killing you, officer, killing the President, killing anyone who stands in the way of our Constitution… You want to stand in the way of our Constitution, I will f[—]ing kill you!”

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro filed felony charges against Dana over his threats to kill President Trump, but a federal grand jury then refused to indict him.

On Thursday, Judge Faruqui went on a rampage against Pirro and the Justice Department, claiming “there’s no credibility left.”

From the Associate PressA federal magistrate judge on Thursday angrily accused top Justice Department prosecutors of trampling on the civil rights of people arrested during President Donald Trump’s law-enforcement surge in the nation’s capital.

Judge Zia Faruqui, a former federal prosecutor, said leaders of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office have tarnished its reputation with how they are handling the deluge of cases. He said Pirro’s office is routinely bringing cases that don’t belong in federal court and needlessly keeping people in jail for days while they evaluate charges.

“It’s not fair to say they’re losing credibility. We’re past that now,” Faruqui said. He later added, “There’s no credibility left.”

According to a thread on X by CBS correspondent Scott MacFarlane, the Muslim judge even APOLOGIZED to Dana for the way the federal prosecutors had treated him and claimed the Trump Administration “is playing cops and robbers like children.”

The judge noted that grand juries have refused to indict multiple people charged by the Justice Department in the past couple of weeks, slammed the DOJ for filing federal charges against so many people, and fumed, “These are people with names and rights!”

“People like Mr Dana are suffering the consequences,” the judge claimed. Noting the number of people whose cases have been dismissed, the judge lamented that the arrest “will be on their record… it’ll impact the arc of someone’s life.”

In a new post Friday afternoon, MacFarlane added:

UPDATE: Judge Zia Faruqui extends deadline for Justice Dept to provide answers about handling of DC criminal case of Edward Dana til Monday.

Judge’s order again blasts the feds: “These catch-&-release arrests have caused presumed-innocent people to spend days detained at the D.C. jail. This goes against our Constitutional norms. And this Court will not be silent when presumed-innocent people are mistreated.”

Pirro is firing back. Thursday afternoon, she ripped into the Muslim judge, posting the following statement on X:

Let me tell you about this Judge Faruqui…  This is a judge who by his own words is trying to justify felons illegally carrying firearms in one of the most violent cities in America.

He has repeatedly indicated his allegiance to those who violate the law and carry illegal guns, justifying the possession of these guns and constantly pushing for the release of these dangerous criminals back into our communities.

In speaking about a defendant possessing an illegal gun in his view if you are a felon just holding an illegal gun “I don’t think that makes you a danger” and “They said the worst thing a judge can have is (sic) they release somebody and they go out and they do something terrible. I don’t think that’s the worst thing. I think the worst thing is that I don’t give you a shot.”

This judge took an oath to follow the law, yet he has allowed his politics to consistently cloud his judgment and his requirement to follow the law. America voted for safe communities, law and order, and this judge is the antithesis of that.

Journalist Julie Kelly is lambasting the judge, and pointing out his harsh crackdown on January 6 prisoners, while slamming Pirro for filing charges against a man who threatened to kill President Trump.

In another post, Kelly wrote: “More on this in a bit because I’m still processing the outrageous accusations and threats made yesterday by Mag Judge Zia Faruqui. I just received the transcript and it’s 1,000 times worse than reported. At one point, Faruqui—who unflinchingly signed HUNDREDS of Jan 6 warrants—is threatening not to sign any complaints brought by Trump DOJ and Jeanine Pirro specifically.

DC Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui–who unleashed another unhinged tirade in court today against the Trump DOJ and offered an apology to career criminal Edward Dana after DOJ was forced to drop a felony charge for threatening the president after another DC jury refused to indict–denied the release of Couy Griffin, the Cowboys for Trump leader who committed no violence on Jan 6 and did not even enter the building. He was charged with 2 federal misdemeanors.

Faruqui:

Here’s a MUST-SEE post by the Pakistan Embassy US from March 27, 2024:

Ambassador Masood Khan @Masood__Khan visited U.S. District Court, District of Columbia and met with Magistrate Judge Zia M. Faruqui. Mr Zia Faruqui is the first Pakistani American who is serving as magistrate judge since 2020. 1/2 #Pakistan #USA

Ambassador Masood Khan admired the role of Pakistani Americans in building bridges between two countries. He also invited Mr Zia Faruqui to visit Pakistan. 2/2 🇵🇰 🇺🇸

In August 2024, Farugui sentenced a “praying Grandma” for her “offenses” on January 6, 2021:

A post by Brandon Straka from August 2024 explains:

Today, Judge Zia Faruqui sentenced 72 year old Rebecca Lavrenz, a woman who walked into the Capitol building for 10 minutes on J6, and committed no violence or destruction.

However, Lavrenz dared to criticize the DOJ’s handling of J6 cases, and the glaringly obvious unfairness of the jury verdicts in DC.

Judge Faruqui was disturbed that Lavrenz would dare to criticize federal prosecutors, judges, and DC juries, and told Lavrenz that her commentary about J6 cases “does nothing but reduce public confidence people have in the system”.

To teach Lavrenz a lesson about how NOT corrupt DC judges and juries are, Judge Faruqui gave the “Praying Grandma” a $103,000 fine and 6 months of house arrest and a year of probation for non violent misdemeanor charges.
